We had a ton of renovations and updating to do, without any money. We were broke. I think the first thing we did was to paint the kids’ rooms. Alexandra got a pink bedroom and Kyle, baby blue. The second thing, I believe was the kitchen. I took up the linoleum floor, actually took a blade to it and started cutting at it. There was another linoleum underneath, but better than the first yellow, gold colored one. I believe it was a no-wax floor, but everything seemed to stick to it. With two young kids in the house, I was moping it every night to keep it clean. It had to go.
When we bought our house it was just about 100 years old and we were the third owner. We wanted a house with character, and boy did we get it. Copper wiring, old single pane windows, some that were painted shut, linoleum floors and oil based paint over what probably was many coats of lead paint on every door, and piece of molding. However, as much as I complained endlessly about this tiny house, I had the best memories of my life raising our young family there.
