My original kitchen was old, I mean 1950s old. It had dark veneer cabinets and a laminate counter top along with linoleum floor. The cabinets weren’t too bad, but everything stuck to that floor. I mopped it almost everyday, and then something inside of me snapped, I couldn’t take it anymore and I took my box cutter and started cutting at it. I figured whatever was underneath couldn’t be worse than that linoleum floor. Underneath was a different kind of linoleum, that didn’t bother me as much. I’ll try to find a photo to post.
We actually bought laminate counter tops and had them for a few years before we upgraded to granite. I knew that I couldn’t expand the space so I just measured and bought the exact size cabinets from what was previously there. A world of difference. Later we moved the table to the dining room, and replaced the table with a kitchen island, which was actually the bottom half of an old hutch I had. It held tons of storage, mostly my plastic Tupperware.
And then this is a photo of the other side of the kitchen. I special-ordered cabinet doors with beveled glass, which was a great idea. Those cabinets held my dishes and glassware and it matched the IKEA cabinet we bought to fill the space in the corner for additional storage. Try to look past the cuties propped on the island wanting to do Easy Bake with mom. I loved staying home with them. Hardest job in the world, but worth it if you can swing it.
